The Island (Reprise) Elizabeth Marshall, December 14, 2024December 14, 2024 (Courtesy of Pixabay) Alive, still, I sit in wait My breath slows, the wind abates The palms of the coconut sway in the breeze, give the impression of being at ease Never since nor before have I been alone on the island I found, now called my home My toes sift sand, longing to feel, they find treasure beneath, still longing to heal Dig ever so deeper! My feet did find the source of it all, which is loving and kind and if it were only there just for me I’d know my own worth and who I could be A bright, shining star falls from the skies in a moonlit night, like a bird, it flies discovering its fate, it strikes the ground The earth shook in fear as I hear the sound My eyes, now open, I feel the force and see the star has run its course I look to the sea, full of life beyond me, teeming with knowledge I never had, understanding it all, the good and the bad Take my hand, please, lead me along on a path I cannot claim to belong Otherwise, it’ll be on the island I stay, until I wake up, and go my own way *** Read the original version of “The Island” here.
